Hyderabad: Amazon Inc. is set to make significant investments to expand its data center facilities and workforce in Hyderabad. Following a meeting between Amazon's senior leadership, led by Kerry Person, Vice President of AWS Data Center Planning and Delivery, and a Telangana delegation led by IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu, Amazon has committed to strengthening its data center operations in the region.
Amazon already has a substantial presence in Telangana, including its largest corporate building globally, located in Hyderabad. In 2023, Amazon launched its dedicated air cargo network, 'Amazon Air,' in Hyderabad. AWS's expansion plans include the development of new hyperscale data centers in Hyderabad, which are crucial for supporting AI and machine learning-enabled services.
Kerry Person expressed enthusiasm about the expansion, stating, “I am excited by the opportunity to further expand our cloud infrastructure in Hyderabad, Telangana, as an integral component of AWS’s strategy in India. We expect the AWS Region in Hyderabad will play an increasingly important role in supporting AWS’s growth of cloud services in India, including Artificial Intelligence in the near future. AWS is committed to contributing to Telangana’s digital ambitions, empowering our customers and partners across the state and country to drive towards India’s trillion-dollar digital economy goal.”
With AWS's expansion in Telangana, the state is poised to solidify its position as a leading hub for cloud and data center infrastructure in India. Minister Sridhar Babu highlighted the positive discussions with Amazon, emphasizing the state's commitment to providing the best incentives and support to ensure the success of AWS's goals in Hyderabad.
