Summary

Following the recent election, OpenAI revealed insights into ChatGPT’s role in guiding voters towards credible election news sources. On Election Day and the day after, ChatGPT redirected over 2 million users to trusted news outlets like Reuters and the Associated Press, emphasizing the importance of verified information over AI-generated content on such topics.

Ahead of Election Day, ChatGPT directed approximately one million users to CanIVote.org, an authoritative resource for voting information. It also declined around 250,000 requests to generate candidate images to prevent the spread of potential misinformation and deepfakes.

Perplexity, another AI-powered platform, also experienced high engagement, with its election information hub garnering about 4 million page views, according to Bloomberg. Despite these numbers, major news outlets like CNN still saw a much larger audience, with around 67 million unique visitors on Election Day.

While ChatGPT’s cautious approach prioritized accuracy, Perplexity took a different strategy by proactively promoting its election resources. This election season demonstrated the increasing role of AI in information-sharing, as millions of users sought election-related answers through AI platforms. Fortunately, this election concluded without significant issues like disputed results, making it a milestone for AI's role in public information.
