Summary

Ericsson and e& UAE have announced a strategic partnership aimed at exposing 5G network capabilities to third-party application developers. By leveraging Ericsson’s Network Exposure Function and e& UAE’s CAMARA API-based service layer, the collaboration provides a more adaptable and programmable 5G experience for developers and enterprises.

This initiative is a critical first step in e& UAE's journey toward programmable 5G networks and Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) models. With a focus on features such as Quality on Demand, this collaboration will empower developers to build advanced services and optimize user experiences across various sectors, including media, gaming, and cloud applications.

Exposing 5G Capabilities Through Open Application Programming Interface

At the heart of this collaboration is the open application programming interface (API), which enables seamless integration of the 5G network with third-party applications. By utilizing Ericsson’s Network Exposure Function, e& UAE offers developers the ability to innovate and create more robust, tailored services that optimize connectivity experiences. This move allows developers to harness the full potential of 5G Standalone (SA) networks, fostering innovation and enhanced service delivery.

Providing developers with efficient access to our 5G network is essential to driving digital innovation in the UAE," said Khaled Al Suwaidi, Senior Vice President of Core Networks and Platforms at e& UAE. "This collaboration with Ericsson will unlock new opportunities in sectors like cloud gaming, media streaming, and more."

Key Use Cases: Media, Gaming, and Cloud Applications

The integration of open application programming interfaces and Quality on Demand functionality will enable developers to create differentiated services tailored to the specific needs of their users. Whether in media and entertainment, cloud gaming, or remote machine control, developers can leverage these capabilities to provide more stable, high-performance networks for their applications.

Ekow Nelson, Vice President and Head of Global Customer Unit for e& at Ericsson Middle East and Africa, explained, "As we expose the rich capabilities of the 5G network through open APIs, developers will be able to seamlessly integrate communication capabilities into their applications, driving the next wave of digital innovation."

Advancing 5G Innovation With Network APIs

Network APIs are fundamental to driving innovation in the 5G era. This collaboration allows hyperscale players and developers to more easily integrate network functionalities into their applications, offering users an improved experience. According to Ericsson’s ConsumerLab survey, 23% of UAE smartphone users are willing to pay a premium for enhanced connectivity, highlighting the growing demand for high-quality digital services.

Together, Ericsson and e& UAE are paving the way for more dynamic 5G networks that meet the evolving needs of the digital economy. Their continued partnership reflects a shared commitment to advancing the UAE's telecommunications landscape and supporting innovation across multiple industries.
