Singapore, Sept 23 – Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, along with his wife Elaine, has made a record-breaking donation of S$20 million (RM65 million) to the Singapore American School. This remarkable contribution marks the largest in the school's history and is set to significantly impact its ongoing developments.

Announced earlier this week, the Saverin family’s donation will go towards creating innovative STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) labs and state-of-the-art play spaces as part of the school’s new elementary campus, currently under construction. These cutting-edge facilities will play a crucial role in fostering hands-on learning and creativity among students.

According to Tom Boasberg, the Superintendent of Singapore American School, the donation will also support strategic initiatives such as the Chinese immersion program, helping the school deliver a diverse and global curriculum. In his weekly communication, he highlighted that the Saverin family's donation would have a "transformative" effect, enriching the learning experience for both current and future students.

Elaine Saverin expressed her hopes for the impact of the donation, saying, "This is a significant and meaningful way for our family to show our commitment to education and the future generations of this school."

Eduardo Saverin, who co-founded Facebook in 2004 alongside Mark Zuckerberg, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes, moved to Singapore in 2009 and officially renounced his U.S. citizenship two years later. His wealth remains closely linked to Meta Platforms Inc., with an estimated net worth of US$30.5 billion (RM128 billion), according to Bloomberg.

Singapore American School, founded in 1956, serves approximately 4,000 students. The institution is known for its academic excellence and charges high school students roughly S$49,000 per year. This donation is expected to advance the school's mission of providing world-class education in Singapore.
