Summary

Microsoft has begun testing a new Xbox Game Pass Standard tier, now available for Xbox Insiders to try out for just $1. This latest subscription option includes access to the extensive Game Pass library for Xbox, along with online console multiplayer capabilities. However, unlike other tiers, the Standard subscription does not offer immediate access to day-one game releases.

During the testing phase, Xbox Insiders can take advantage of the Xbox Game Pass Standard tier for only $1 per month. “Any renewals during the preview period will also be $1 per month,” explains Megan Spurr, Senior Community Lead for Xbox Game Pass. Once the Standard tier officially launches, it will be priced at $14.99 per month.

Microsoft has also clarified how day-one games and other titles will be handled in this tier. According to Spurr, "Some games arriving on Game Pass Ultimate, including day-one releases, may not be available immediately with Game Pass Standard and could be added to the library at a later date, which might be up to 12 months or more, depending on the title."

This new tier was first announced by Microsoft in July, alongside price adjustments for the Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscriptions. The Xbox Game Pass Standard is set to launch in the coming months. Meanwhile, the current Xbox Game Pass for Console subscription will remain available for existing subscribers, but new subscribers will have to wait for the broader release of the Game Pass Standard option.

For those eager to test out the new Xbox Game Pass Standard for just $1, you can enroll through the Xbox Insider Hub on your console. Microsoft notes that current Game Pass Core members with two or more months remaining on their membership or current Game Pass Ultimate members will not be eligible to participate in this test.
