OpenAI Co-Founder Ilya Sutskever Launches Safe Superintelligence Inc. Focused on AI Safety

Ilya Sutskever, a co-founder of OpenAI, has announced the formation of a new artificial intelligence company, Safe Superintelligence Inc., with a primary focus on the safe development of superintelligent AI systems. This new venture comes after Sutskever's departure from OpenAI last month. He is joined by co-founders Daniel Gross and Daniel Levy.

Safe Superintelligence Inc. aims to prioritize safety in AI development without the distractions of management and product cycles. The company will operate independently of short-term commercial pressures, ensuring that safety and security remain at the forefront of their mission. Based in Palo Alto, California, and Tel Aviv, the company plans to leverage its deep roots in these locations to attract top technical talent.

Sutskever's departure from OpenAI followed internal disagreements about prioritizing business opportunities over AI safety. He had previously led efforts at OpenAI to develop artificial general intelligence (AGI) safely. His new venture underscores his continued commitment to AI safety.
