World's Tallest Projector Screen Stands at 131 Feet, Powered by Seven Laser Projectors

A Spectacle in Projection Technology

The world's tallest projection screen has been unveiled at the Gasometer museum in Oberhausen, Germany. This 131-foot-high L-shaped screen, created by AV Stumpfl, features their Flex Contrast PRO surface and is part of the ocean-themed "Planet Ozean" exhibition.

An Impressive Addition to the Gasometer Museum

AV Stumpfl's towering 40m x 20m (131 feet x 66 feet) projection screen is a highlight of the Planet Ozean exhibition. This museum, a repurposed gas holder now known as the "cathedral of industrial culture," showcases this massive screen to present "Die Welle" (The Wave) sculpture by Ars Electronica Solutions. The exhibit, running until the end of the year, celebrates the beauty of the oceans with life-sized, photo-realistic visuals of whales, fish, and jellyfish, all powered by seven ultra-bright 30,000-lumen laser projectors.

An Immersive Oceanic Experience

Curator Nils Sparwasser explains, “The Wave sculpture, developed in collaboration with Ars Electronica Solutions and composer Rupert Huber, offers an entirely new immersive experience that can only be achieved in the unique space of the Gasometer.” The massive screen provides an unparalleled visual experience, allowing visitors to feel as though they are swimming alongside marine giants.

Innovative Exhibition Design

Jeanette Schmitz, managing director of Gasometer Oberhausen and curator of Planet Ozean, highlights the exhibition's impact: “The Wave captivates visitors, offering them the rare opportunity to hunt with sharks or marvel at life-sized humpback whales. This exhibit is a key element of our concept, providing diverse communicative approaches and unparalleled insights into the ocean world.”
