Summary

Apple is testing a new feature for its Find My app that may allow users to share the locations of lost items, like iPhones, Macbooks, or AirTag-equipped belongings, with people outside their contact list using a shareable link.

Spotted in the iOS 18.2 developer beta by MacRumors, this feature would let users generate a link to the item’s location, making it easier to enlist help from strangers, such as cab drivers or airline employees, in retrieving lost belongings. This link, viewable on both Apple and non-Apple devices, expires after one week or once the item is recovered.

The beta also introduces a "Share Contact Info" feature, which, when activated, allows anyone with a compatible device to view the item's associated contact details, such as the owner’s phone number or email, if added. This option is designed to facilitate communication with those who find lost items.

Additionally, Find My already enables location-sharing within contacts, but this new update provides extended functionality by allowing owners to monitor statistics, including the number of times the link was accessed.
