Summary
Apple has just released iOS 18, bringing exciting new features and updates to iPhone users worldwide. Although AI-driven Apple Intelligence features were initially highlighted, these won’t arrive until iOS 18.1, with the U.S. getting them first before a broader global rollout over the coming months.
The primary focus of iOS 18 is personalization, allowing users to customize their home screens, icons, and even the Control Center. The update introduces a redesigned Control Center with multiple customizable pages for favorites, music, home controls, and connectivity, offering users more control over essential functions like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and personal hotspots. With iOS 18, users can add or remove icons and pages to tailor the Control Center to their preferences.
Additionally, iOS 18 offers new icon personalization features. Users can now place icons anywhere on the screen grid or enlarge them to hide text labels, giving their home screens a more streamlined look. This feature will resonate especially with Gen Z, who embraced custom icons with the launch of iOS 14. Users can also switch to dark mode or apply custom color tints, while third-party app developers can now create custom icons to align with these updates.
On the Lock Screen, users have more freedom, too. With iOS 18, you can now swap out default shortcuts like the camera with third-party apps such as Obscura or Halide, giving you more control over how you interact with your device.
Key Features in iOS 18:
While many third-party developers are still updating their apps to support these new features, some are already ready to take full advantage of iOS 18’s personalization options.
