Wikipedia Mobile Site Launches Dark Mode: Here's How to Enable It

After several years of anticipation, Wikipedia has introduced a dark mode for its mobile website, joining the ranks of many other popular apps like YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Hulu, and WhatsApp.

Both Apple and Google integrated systemwide dark themes for their mobile operating systems back in 2018, and now Wikipedia has caught up, rolling out its dark mode in 2024.

If you've visited Wikipedia on your mobile device recently, you might have noticed a pop-up indicating the availability of dark mode. Here’s a simple guide to turning it on:

1. Visit Wikipedia’s mobile site.

2. Tap on the hamburger menu at the top.

3. Select Settings.

4. Under the Color section, choose “Dark” as the option.

Wikipedia notes that this dark mode is an experimental feature, so users might encounter some issues.

Currently, dark mode is available only on the mobile website. However, a Reddit user mentioned that desktop users might also see this option available later this month. We will update this story once dark mode is available for Wikipedia's desktop site.
